is it ethical to use advertising in politcs at all?

if it does not provide information to the voters than it is just a process corrosive to the democratic process. this should not be some popularity contest, voters need to be informed on a much much higher level than a billboard. it is irresponcible to waste money, material and labour on something so horrible for the democratic process.

Philip, having run successfully for election and re-election several times, I absolutely agree with your assessment of the value of billboards. As a frequent traveler, I find that within a relatively short period of time they become "invisible", having blended in with the surrounding area that I pass repeatedly. If you're going to spend money, spend it on targeted direct mailers. You're absolutely correct.
