A Unique Political Campaign Candidate Election Interview

The vast majority of political campaign bloggers only interview election candidates who share their views.  This makes for great partisan red meat and is a good way to play to your audience, but it’s rarely very interesting.  That’s why I enjoyed seeing a this interview on Blogging Blue today: even though the site is run by a self-described liberal Democrat, the featured interview is with Dave Westlake, a candidate running in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin.

Kudos to both Blogging Blue for being so professional and gracious in their interview, and to Westlake for having the chutzpa to go on-the-record with a liberal blogger.  It made for a good interview, and I’d like to see more bloggers and candidates do the same.

I especially like Blogging Blue’s closing paragraph:

“Dave Westlake may be a likable guy who’s passionate about what he believes in, but ultimately he faces an uphill battle (to put it mildly) if he’s going to beat his Republican opponents for the chance to lose to Sen. Feingold in the general election.”
